Major Props

To everyone - but especially to Adam and Sam for excellent reading in - if you are going to have to use scripts in a performance, then do it with style, I say - and you did. However, Sam nearly gave me a heart attack tipping his transportation over (thanks Sam!). Props too to Luke for excellently funny chalk-wielding.

Saturday Night - Venue Change

This evening's performance will be at the wet weather venue - Palmerston North Girls High School, and the role of Parolles will be played by Sam Gordon, who will replace Brendon Kinch until Brendon is recovered.

Adam Lawrie Dodd will take over Sam's roles in the interim.

Taking drama to the next level

Last night's performance was brought to an abrupt and unscheduled end when Brendon Kinch, who plays Parolles, threw himself into his role with a little too much enthusiasm. In the second half of the show, Brendon slipped on something in the middle of a physically intense scene, coming crashing to the ground and stunning himself, so that he had to be carried off by other cast members. While it looked, at first, like part of the scene - and all credit to the quick thinking of the various lords and young lords for managing to pull that off - it soon became clear that Brendon wasn't fit to carry on, and the performance was postponed.

The good news is that Brendan is only suffering a mild concussion and will be fine with a day or two's rest. In the meantime, his role will be played by a stand in, who will be announced shortly.

Congratulations!

Great opening night - I brought a couple of friends and they raved about the show all the way home - good to see the cast looking as if they were having as good a time as the audience. Here's hoping the weather stays as good as tonight throughout the run.

So....

Opening night approaches apace - the bleachers are in place, we have costumes and props, and tomorrow is the Arts on Wednesday selection in the Auditorium at Massey. Time to take a deep breath and launch into it, then.

There will be daily blog entries on performance days, confirming the location of performances.

Sonneting went well

The relay was fast and furious, the sonnets loud and vigorous, the flyers and poems widely dispersed, and the papers present - looks like the event was fairly successful all round and everyone seemed to have fun. Next week, promotion moves to Esplanade Day.

Friday, February 6, 2009

Saturday 14th February we will be holding a promotional "On Wheels" relay in The Square, Palmerston North. There will actors. There will be bikes, skates, scooters and very possibly a wheelchair. There will be readings of sonnets, and a giveaway of sonnets for you to pass to your best beloved valentine. There will be a scene from the play. Be there. Enjoy.

So, the cast is cast, publicity has started to go public and rehearsals have begun. We have a blog, and very soon, we will have a shiny new website. It's all go!
